My New Bianchi Milano Bike

Img_0881Lifestyle changes are always a good thing - and I'm cleaning house, nixing old habits, reconnecting with what I consider to be my core integrity - living in peace and a rejection of materialism.

I recently stopped driving so much. Partly because my work leaves me very preoccupied and I really do not pay the attention I should to the road. A car accident in May, which was not entirely my fault, gave me pause. So in selecting a new place to live I chose a place close to the CalTrain. I live in Sunnyvale but I am now effectively a short walk from the Stanford campus - where I plan to spend some of my time this coming year.

And so to continue the theme of lifestyle changes I bought myself a bicycle - a nice new 2006 Bianchi Milano, very retro and very "about town and campus" I've had it for a couple of weeks now and I am really enjoying it.

I feel better already.

I love my bianchi milano so much that I made a few changes. I ride to work and train, and wanted a super fast sleeper bike. dual chainrings up front with grip shift, giving me 14 speeds (chain guard/fenders/rear rack/bags, a must to fool those real racer guys trying to keep up). 3 rear interchangeable cogs to give me a possible 42 different gear ratios. Of course the stronger you get, the smaller the rear cog! Putting on a 16 tooth this weekend and looking to find something smaller? Road racing bars. Sweet ride, fun, fun, fun!!! I'm an old Rollo at heart. Bianchi has a winner with the Milano.

I ride a Rollo (couldn't afford the Milano). Some day....

Note: You don't reject materialism by purchasing a new identity via a bike. No apologies needed. The bike rocks. You wanted it and got it.

Thanks for the comment. I understand your point.

Being nearly two years later, I'm curious to learn if you are still in love with your Milano? Can you give us any kind of long-term usage review on the bike?

Hey Steve,

Yes, I still love the Milano and ride it almost daily. I'm in the middle of purchasing / assembling a new bike and I will discuss this in a post soon (including giving a longer term view of the Milano).
